I'm planning on going to Langkawi at the end of July for just over a week after travelling the East Coast of Oz. Would love some suggestions on accommodation (fairly reasonable price if possible) & things to do if anyone has been before.

A friend and i are going to malaysia 25th June and also on to Borneo (air asia) we have a 4 week time period ( i hope to stay longer maybe 2 months) Anyway... can anyone tell us about budget, places to go and anything else.

It depends on the budget. 1st you need to know where you want to go.
There's a lot of activity you can do there.
Among the interesting places are
- cable car
- kilim eagle nest
- lovely food
- island hopping
- beach activity..

I stopped at a place called Gecko Guest House on the main beach (think it was called Cenang). I stopped in the dorm but they also have twin/doubles which are reasonable as well. It gets quite busy so sometimes it can be full, but if you turn up and they haven't got any beds then there's a couple of other cheap hostels/guest houses right next to it.
I can't remember the exact price I paid but it was basically the cheapest option on Langkawi.
Most of the budget accomodation is at Pantai Cenang which is a nice enough beach and not a bad place to relax. I much prefer the beach at Tanjung Rhu but the only accomodation there is 2 moderately expensive resort hotels (Tanjung Rhu Resort and Four Seasons Langkawi).
