hello leeese i say rent a car for sure nothing like driving cross country n seeing the states... music see as much music as you can festys allover all summer long phish go see phish you wont regret it id say start out in cali make your way to ny(i live on long island 30 mins from manhattan) goto austin, texas grand canyon new orleans colorado youll need 2 weeks at least in ny..email me if you want more help,roy...

I would write everything you want to see and do, I live in NYC and there are more afordable times to visit where you can do things for free; for example if you wanted to see museums - we have an event called "museum mile" in June where all the museums are for free to get in along 5th avenue

Hi girls,
I have spent loads of time travelling the states and would really advise getting the train, go to amtrak.com and look up the rail passes, they are good value for money and you get to see everything. They are pretty much like a hostel on rails and cover the whole country. A car is good, but you need a lot of driving experience and money to pay for insurance and gas. I would in general also steer clear of Greyhound, they are handy for the out of the way places, but not for long term travel.
I have been to all the major cities and done pretty much everything there is to see and do, my main interest is history and culture and i always try to do as much as i can on a limited budget. It would take ages to write everything down, so please get in contact with me if you want any more specific info, particularly on New York, Boston, San Fran and California, Chicago, Grand Canyon, Vegas.
to give you an idea of budget, the last time i visited was about a year ago for two weeks and including flights and my amtrak pass it cost me about 1200 pounds. Always fly into New York if your are coming from Europe
Let me know if you need any more info and have fun planning

Traveling in the USA will cost about half as much as the EU. Be careful in the big cities: lots of crime.
I would suggest San Francsisco, Denver, New Orleans, Miami, Charleston, SC. Wash. DC, Boston, Ma. and New York.
Las Vegas is all fake, but very showy. Chicago is a little like Atlanta: very generic. Toronto, Canada is nice.
You might want to join AAA ( The American Automoblie Association) Many hotel and attraction discounts.
Have fun.

I would say fly into New York. enjoy the city for a bit as there as so many things to do. Then go across Interstate 80 to chicago. You will be able to run through CLeveland on the way. Stay in Chicago enjoy the city. You have to go to the WIllis tower skydeck for an amazing view Then take route 66 all through the midwest. Youll be able to stop at the grand canyon and make your way into California happy travels my friend
