Best places to stay and see?

Just need help with the best places to go and stay in Australia and New Zealand as i have planned thing but have been told so many different places....i go in three weeks which i am leaving bit late but would appreciate just a little help Pleaseeeeeeeee

It depends on what you like. Everyone is different. I like towns so visit the big cities. Some like the wide open spaces. Some the wild life, Great Barrier Reef, etc.

Australia is a BIG country. Perth to Sydney is over 4 hours so same flying time as London to the Canary islands.

You don't say where you are landing. For me I would travel the east coast. Brisbane, Canberra, Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne, etc. Public transport is pretty good, If you hire a car (driving licence needed) and don't take it back to where you picked it up from, there is a steep one way charge. Driving is on the left, both places.

I know people will moan at me for saying it but Ayres Rock is a big lump of rock a thousand miles from anywhere. Big deal.

Where are you flying into New Zealand? Both islands are each about the size of England. Reading travel forums, most just want the south of the South Island though to be honest, if all you want is countryside, Norway is probably better, and a lot nearer.

I enjoyed driving around both islands, though the endless bland greenery on the west coast of the South island can be a bit monotonous. Lots of small towns and it's olde worlde in places. Lots of B&B's about and travelling between islands you drop a car off one side and pick a car up the other side from the same company with no extra cost.

Look in W H Smiths who may have the Lonely Planet guides to both countries. They are packed full of information.

Come back when you have some specific questions.

I Will have to pop in to WH Smiths and see what i can find.

Australia we have got the bus that takes us from Sydney to Caines so anywhere along the East Coast if that helps? i am limiting myself with money so if you have any ideas the best places to drop off at then would be appreciated!

New Zealand - we where thinking of staying near Auckland Taupo.....but i have heard the best places are more in the south?

we are easy as i love the open spaces just as much as the Cities and closed up areas

Thank you for the above it already is a great help

On the east coast of Aussie many travellers enjoy Byron Bay. It has a kind of beachy, hippie, laid-back vibe. The Gold Coast is a lot of fun, but you'd need a bit of spare cash to be able to make the most of the theme parks, dinner and theatre shows and other attractions. Great beaches though and good malls for a bit of shopping. Theres also a pretty good weekend market at Carrara. I haven't spent much time in Brisbane, but of course thats the next big city on your way up the coast. On the other side of Brisbane is the Sunshine Coast which is more relaxed and much less populated than the Gold Coast. Noosa is nice, and Fraser Island is a fun day trip (or more if you can spare the time), we did a guided 4wd tour.

If you decide you're interested in the South Island in NZ I can definitely help you out - I live there

Sounds Brill! thank you for the information, i am double checking the plan before i leave so i can have abetter idea of where to go so i can let you now about Australia!

Yes i am think south NZ so anything you can help with - Best place to sky dive and see would be so appreciated looking to spend a month around the South so anything/any place with great food and things to do (even just laying around).

Cant wait to go!

As to NZ, I think staying on the North Island and near Taupo is great - I liked Turangi at the southern end of the lake a lot more though. You can easily spend a day hiking the Tongararo Crossing, the hot springs are a nice way to spend an hour or two. Up near Rotorua make sure to see the geothermal park full of boiling lakes, mud and geysers. Take a walk along the lake there and check out some of the local crafts and a bit of the Maori culture in the churches and crafts. There is also some great birdwatching in the area.

If you head north from Auckland the Bay of Islands is a lovely area as is the area north of it. You'll find a handful of wineries, a lot of outdoor activities and plenty to see.

Make sure you do a day trip up to Goat Island from Auckland. People say there's not much to do or see in Auckland but Goat Island is one of the nicest places in the country for me. Many people miss it to. -snip-

Thank you so much guys! re-looking at the plan for NZ and maybe considering the North a lot more....but i have a month so i can choose.

Thinking of Taupo and areas around there if honest and they do a sky dive? also will def check out the Goat Island as sounds lovely.

Many Thanks x
