Hey Jess, I'm planning on heading out their similar time and hoping to stay out there for a year working as I go Im booking it through a company so the first few days wont be quite so scary but after that Im pretty much going to be winging it hehe how long are you going for?
A year is what I'm planning!! I have a friends sister so I can stay with her for a week or 2, but I do want to meet people, live with them, maybe do bar work, have a good social life etc! Are u on fb? X

Hey, I just read this thread and getting a worker's holiday visa is what I wanted to do in 2010, but I always seem to encounter pretty wretched obstacles when traveling. They didn't grant me the visa and I couldn't afford to leave the country (aus) and re-enter so I was granted a differnet visa. I have been hoping to get back and do a year there (working). But I guess I doubt if that is the best thing for me to do; it may be, or may not. I have thought about east coast usa as well. I have 4year degree and certifications and most relocation considerations are career-motivated/driven. Things feel pretty bleak in america, but traveling to aus and not getting the workers visa I saught (I applied for the visa out of the coutnry but was evaulated on it in country; idiotic policy) hurt (financially).
I don't want to be "a traveler" either, really. Even though that's what I've been for about half a dozen years. Not sure what to do really. Aus seemed great; france was interesting; considering east coast usa. no job, lot's of web online work.
how far advance did you get your ticket and visa? is that for this coming september?? So you got visa and ticket six months in advance? plannign that far ahead would be really good, but I have to decide if that's what I want or not, and am not certain, although has been interest.
Going to aus used to be my interest. Not sure if it is. I don't like the approach of just winging it. I have done that and won't do it again . For some people it may work, but I don't wing things any more (in some ways it is a strength and I excel at it more than other ways, but in other ways it's not my capacity). I will have to have work arranged beforehand; there's no other situation.

I’m thinking of getting a Working Holiday Visa for Oz (12 months) - within this time I intend to work a little, move on and travel work some more etc. Also within the 12 months I hope to have saved enough money to travel NZ in a campervan and to also visit Fiji (not sure for how long though). The plan is then back to Oz for more work and hopefully more saving. I have done a little research and apparently if you have worked 88 days or more on a farm you can apply for a second WHV (not sure if i would do this but it is an option i suppose). Eventually i want to have saved enough after Oz to travel SE Asia (for a long time - i hope!).
Im currently planning this alone as friends cannot afford it or are settled down etc. I have two friends who want to join but cant save enough until like March 2013 but I just want to get out of here and travel the world! I am an outgoing person, love my nights out, sight seeing and adventures. I would love to meet like minded people who are planning the same sort of thing as i dont want to travel alone - its sooo daunting! Nothing is set in stone at the moment but hoping to sort something out real soon

Finally taking the big plunge - quitting my job and planning on traveling. Oz Intro was something I was thinking about as I am travelling alone! Not sure the exact time I am going yet but after July 2012 for certain.

Like Griz I've also booked a welcome package so it should be a little less daunting in the first week, would definitely recommend doing it!
