thailand virgins :)

Hi, Im new to this forum and new to asia!
Im planning a trip this summer with my boyfriend and was hoping to run a potential itinerary by some seasoned and hopefully helpful travellers like you guys for some tips or ideas.
so we plan to fly into bangkok on the 26th july, and on the 27th take a bus and a ferry to ko tao, then spend the next while on the islands around there, and maybe take in some diving and a full moon party, bus back to bangkok on 8th/9th ish, flight to phnom penh for a day or two, bus to siem reap where we are doing a volunteer project thing from 12th-26th (new hope its called) THEN a flight to bangkok and from there to chaing mai to do a jungle trek for even 3 days from pai, bus back to bangkok and flight home to ireland on 2nd sept! what you guys think? thanks!

ALSO just checking here...with the tourist visa exemption thing we can do this ok?

I think you are OK with your itinerary. You don't state your country, but most western passport holders will get 30 days entry permit when flying into BKK. The only suggestion I have is to check on the price of your flight between REP-BKK. This can be a pricey flight for such a short hop. There is an overland option if money is more important than time. Read about it if you want a bit of adventure in your travel back to BKK!

Good luck with your planning.

If she's done her planning then she's picked up one of the promo flights air asia regularly holds and has a flight for $11.

Sounds like you have a really nicely put together itinerary. My only suggestion would be switch from a bus to the train from Chaing Mai to Bangkok, it's much more relaxed than the bus and only a bit more expensive.

Ko Tao is awesome, but it's I think about 3hours on the ferry back to Ko Phangan for the full moon parties. I have pictures of Ko Tao and Chaing Mai here

I got a flight one way with oriental Thai airlines today for 1750 baht from Bangkok to Chang Mai that's like £30 the bus is long and painful on the head haha so fly if you can safe travels

Last time I checked (today) does not fly REP-BKK. BKK Air had a monopoly on this route, hence the high fare for an hour flight. I was quoted $250+ one way for several dates. If you know of another airline: REP-BKK, please share.

They could backtrack to Phnom Penh and fly Air Asia: PNH-BKK. That might make sense if they need another 30 days in Thailand. The overland option will only give them 15 days in Thailand.

Nope I had a brain fart and thought you were talking about the flight from Bangkok to Chiang Mai.

yeah the rep-bkk flight was very expensive thats why we decided to do it one way and fly via phnom penh the other way!
another question i have is will the weather permit treks from pai/chaing mai at the very end of august??? and if not is the city intresting enough for the 4/5 days or should we spend it elsewhere?
and is there elephants/interesting animals/wildlife on any of the gulf of thailand islands?

thanks for the tip on airlines/cheap bkk to chaingmai flights! :D

aoifemu, I am also going to be going to Thailand for my first time in August, I am planning on attending the FMP as well. I have a different itinerary than you all. I land in Bangkok on the 3rd and immediately head to Koh Phangan and stay till the 5th, attending the FMP. Then I boat over to Ko Samui and see the island and animal exhibit. Next I boat to the mainland and bus into Krabi where I spend the day and then head of to the close by city of Phi-Phi. From there I head to Phuket to do diving and sight seeing for a few days (probably by boat or bus, have not decided yet), then I fly off to Chiang Mai for Flight of the Gibbon, White Water Rafting, Elephant ride, and Culinary school. From there I am off to Pattaya for a few days to see the "exotic" night life and finally complete the journey back in Bangkok for a few days to get a suit, see the royal palace, visit the state tower, and a few other attractions.
