This summer I will be inter-railing around Europe. I am starting in Berlin. I have a hostel booked in Mitte but I am finding it difficult to get information on the nightlife in the area.

Good choice to go to Berlin!
I would recommend these areas to go out: Friedrichheinkreuzberg, Mitte & Prenzlauerber.
As you are saying your hostel is in Mitte, you are lucky! In Mitte are some great places to go out. You should orientate you on the north of Hackescher Market and near the Alexanderplatz, there are some great places for you!
The entrance at clubs really depends on where you are going to, the little clubs don´t charge entrance. But when you go to some middle clubs (for example Magnet) it is possible you have to pay approximately €5,-. Just like in other big cities, are in Berlin those large touristic clubs, they will charge you an entrance of approximately €15,-
When you are on a tight budget, I would advice you not to go there.
The same story for the drinks, there are cocktail bars where you have to pay €3,- for a big and delicious cocktail, but when you go for example to Potzdammer Platz you will pay at least €10,- for the same cocktail!
Overal the prices of beer are cheaper in Berlin compared to other big, mayor cities.
So, I hope I helped you a little, as I don´t know what interests you, but you should orientate yourself on what you want exactly!

Oh?? In my opinion Mitte ist total last year.. or better last century ?! I remember the good old times where you can go out in Mitte.. but right now.. you need to checkout the clubs in Friedrichshain and Kreuzberg. Ok there are also clubs in Mitte or Prenzlauer Berg but that's all big tourists clubs. These clubs had nothing to do with the Berlin Nightlife. Checkout all clubs at Revaler Strasse also called Berlin's "Technostrich" avoid HackischerMarkt and Alexanderplatz as also Oranienburger Strasse at night because its full with pub-crawl tourists. Check out the Simon-Dach Str. that's where the locals go out. And here you will find also your cocktial for 3-6€ in Mitte the cheap times are long time over..
on Wensday check out Tresor Watergate Cassopeia or Magnet Club entrance fee should be around 5€ on weekends you pay at the local clubs from 5-12€
the tourist clubs are often cheaper because they have to attracted the tourists.. but still i don't recommend these places (Matrix,Adagio,40 seconds, E4, Soda, Dante)

Cheers guys. From my own reading I have found Mitte is one of the places to go but perhaps slightly more expensive.
I have also found organised Pub Crawls buy a tour company? I do not know if I am allowed to post the link, so I won't but does anyone have any experience of such things.
Preferably this night out should be within walking distance of Mitte or around Mitte. A pub/bar crawl ending in a night club is the plan. Any more suggestions to specific venues?
The group consists mainly of students, all of us are in our twenties therefore money is in an obstacle.
Are prices in Berlin at all comparable to London? As London tends to be very expensive.
