My flights are all booked for may 2011 whoooooop! 80 days to go not that I'm counting Just wondered because I'm not planning on working how much I should aim at taking it'll be just under 3 months I'm there and it's only going to be me. Any advice would be great..... And also any tips on must see places along east coast aus .....happy travelling xxxx
Hostels seem to average at around £30 a night pp. So you can work out the basic amounts with hostels and food costs in mind. Any other costs, to cover shopping, activities (bungee jumping, skiing, snorkelling, hiring a 4x4 etc) will obviously cost significantly more!
I'm off to Australia myself, and I am too alone. Planning on staying for a good few months, possibly over a year, so I will have to work. I'll be looking out for bar or fruit picking jobs along the way, as well as looking for jobs in my profession - television production.

3 months without working! Wow.. =) At the minimum without entertainment, just lodging, food and transport alone: AUD 55/day*90days= AUD5,000..
Im going for 10 days Gold Coast, should need to spend about AUD1,000 for lodging (AUD30 x 9 nights) , food (AUD 20 x 10 days), transport (AUD 10 x 10 days) and entrance fees to movie world(AUD 120)+ sea world, white water world(AUD 110)+ dreamworld, currumbin (AUD33), infinity (AUD20), adrenalin park (AUD45) and a surf lesson (AUD 55). =D
If anyone knows of ways i can save, please let me know.. =)

I've been told by friends to budget for about $1000 a month out there for basics (food, accomodation, travel etc) and then to add any additional costs such as sightseeing. Don't worry too much!
Also - sights along the east coast: obviously Great Barrier Reef but the Whitsunday Islands are supposed to be gorgeous and also Fraser Island.

Sorry! X.x I have found some ways to save since.. Lodging will cost about AUD120/week if you share a room as compared to AUD210/week if you get a backpackers hostel, or you can try couch surfing.. And the themeparks! Gawd, got me so excited because all the 5 parks are now having promotion, unlimited entries to all 5 parks up to 30th June 2011 for AUD180... Soooo cheaaapp.. :D U.n.l.i.m.i.t.e.d. e.n.t.r.i.e.s!
The costs above are for short term holiday.. Im sorry i panicked you unnecessarily.. Im sure food will cost cheaper if you buy breads/milks/stuff from the malls instead of eating out.. And lodging, in some places you can get like AUD20/night.. All the best!

Hi daisybug! When are you going to be in Sydney? I am flying in to Brisbane june 3rd and making my way down to Sydney, i think I should be there around the 14th of June. I have plans for the travel in between the two cities, but not quite sure what to do around Sydney, what are your plans?
