Travelling to thailand, vietnam and cambodia

Hi, first Post. Me and my friend are planning to travel to asia in august, for around 3/4 weeks. The date isn't confirmed yet, hes in the marines so he needs his leave dates finalised.

Hey mate.

I used dialaflight when i went to vietnam. Flew from Heatrow, stopped of in Doha for an hour and then to Ho Chi Minh City. About £550 return

Hope this helped

Thailand is big time diving location. I do not dive myself but I know from observations it is big business. If you have not done it, Thailand is definitely a destination to think about. Been living here for nearly twenty years off and on. Easiest place I have ever lived.

It should not be too difficult to get from Thailand into Cambodia over land. The last time I checked (a year or so ago) it was not difficult to go from Phnom Penh to Vietnam. What a trip that would be!

Visited HaLong Bay before it became a destination. Watched a French movie called Indochine and had to go see it for myself. Absolutely fabulous!

Good luck on your trip.

Thanks for the replies.

Had a quick look for flights yesterday to bangkok , was coming up roughly around £500 for a single way and like £550 for a return. Do you think it would be better to start in bangkok and finish back in bangkok to save some money on the flights or would this be a total nightmare as opposed to getting a flight back home from either vietnam or cambodia.

Which order would you visit these countries, where would you start and end

Thanks again.

James,
It is cheaper to fly into BKK than the other SEA countries. More competition. I would fly into and out of BKK. After a week or so in Thailand, I would fly: BKK-HAN on . Then take 2 weeks using the to make your way down to HCMC. is probably the most popular dive spot in VN. Of course there are to dive VN as well. After you are done with VN, I would take the bus over to Phnom Penh. covers my trip: HCM-PP. to Siem Reap to see Angkor Wat. Now you can take an expensive flight REP-BKK or a to BKK.

Good luck with your planning.

You can use Jetstar Pacific which is cheap flight from Vietnam to other countries. You may want see some Vietnam's pics before going, so check it out on -snip-

vegas mike that sounds like a good plan!
Them pictures in that gallery are amazing, im definitely going to invest in a good camera before i go.

How are the prices in these countries, are they still really cheap or are they starting to charge alot for tourism etc.

How much would you be comfortable in taking for a 4 week stay. Obviously it will be different for each person, but a ball park figure?

James,
I am a 'cheap charlie' and a veggie, plus no beer. I know, boring. I spend the money saved on sightseeing/tours. There are rooms around $10/nite in all 3 countries. Easy to find in VN & Cambo. Not so easy in Tland. Let's figure $15/nite to be safe. Food is cheap if you eat with the locals. Or places that cater to the backpack crowd. I spent about $6/day for all meals. Many places offer BF with the room. Eggs/toast are under $2 if you have to buy BF. Sandwich, fruit or yogurt bought on the street for lunch is $1. A local restaurant, Indian, Chinese or 'eat street' for dinner. My blog covers this. I figure $10/day food for you. Add transport & tours to make up the rest. I use $40/day average or $1.2K for the month. Days when you have a $7 fan room, eat street and lay on the beach will keep you way under your $40/day budget. Diving, touring HaLong Bay or partying all night will put you over for that day. Buses are cheaper than trains or boats. Stay in fan rooms, eat street when possible and no beer should keep you guys on budget.

Good luck with your planning.
