Hey guys,
Looking for some help on a travel plan for America this December for 4 weeks. We definitely want New York on NYE, and know we want to go to Vegas, San Fran, and definitely LA, and possibly Miami, Chicago, San Diego.
We want to know the best way to plan out, and if anyone could give advice on how many days in each place?
Any help would be appreciated!

Easy to drive the west coast wing of your trip. NY-Miami-Chicago all will make sense to fly (as will getting to the west coast). NY and Chicago are likely to be cold (possibly very cold) at that time of year and don't be surprised if you get some weather which can delay things.
Probably do either NY-Miami or Miami-NY, then hop to Chicago then head west. As to timing.. that so depends on what you like and what you want to do. beaches and nightclubbing? spend more time in Miami, Museums and culture? More time in NY and/or Chicago. Beautiful scenery? More time out west.
Honestly I don't think much of Vegas (but it's still worth a day or so), but going from there out to the Grand Canyon, Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon is amazing.
San Fran and the Napa Valley is easily worth 4-5 days. SD maybe 2-3 days (not including beach time).

Thanks heaps for that!! Do you have any other suggestions of places worth seeing? We are happy to take Miami out of the equasion as it is kind of out of the way?
We honestly dont have a clue what we want to do! Just things we have seen from other travellers, ie Alcatraz, Universal Studios, NYE in New York, Grand Canyon....basically sightseeing and doing American things haha

Honestly there is so much to see and do I can't really advise you specifically without knowing what your tastes are. There are people who love NY and want to spend 2 weeks here seeing museums, shows, walking neighborhoods and doing the music and dining scene, and people who look, say it's a big city and are ready to leave in 24-48 hours. If you remind me before you go I'll send you some walking tours and such.
in San Fran I'd go visit the big stuff (Alcatraz, walk the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf tour the city, visit chinatown and maybe Sausalito), spend 1-2 days or so out in wine country, and visit Muir Woods.
A lot of people aren't crazy about going to LA (even me and I lived there for over 20 years), but it really is one of the best places to go in the US in December/January (along with San Diego).
The amusement parks (Disneyland, Universal Studios--and even Sea World down in San Diego) tend to be fairly empty (except Christmas to New Years when they are absolutely packed), so if you can get here by at least December 15th or so, then you can get through the park quickly (which really makes for a much more enjoyable experience).
Also, you can visit some other places like Huntington Library and Gardens, La Brea Tar Pits, Olvera Street, and even Palm Springs east of town about two hours drive if the weather is good.
If you really want to spend new years eve in new york city, you better start making arrangements now. Every place gets completely sold out very quickly. And every place charges high prices for admission/reservations/tickets. EVERY place: hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars. And it still sells out quick!
Oh! I forgot to mention the main event for New years eve in nyc: Times Square That is if you dont mind crowded drunken revelry Its basically standing around in the streets of Times Square with thousands of other people, waiting for the famous nye ball to drop. Believe it or not, its exciting. Dress warm.
Hi Guys I found this now!! I'd like to travel to the US from mid December to mid January. Have you already booked flights or something?? I'm argentinian but live in NZ now, and trying to find people to travel with.

Considerable bad weather in Dec/Jan in the States - expect plenty of RAIN & SNOW
I'm one who avoids LA - it was nice in the 1950-60's, but today it's one big freeway maze (don't attempt it without wheels!)

If you want to visit USA for 4 weeks then to spend 1 week in Las Vegas is the best option.
