backpack for girl

can some one please explain what's the difference with backpacks. i don't understand what 40L or 60L whats the difference beteen them? what size would you recommed i get for a 4 month trip to Europe and keep in mind i'm a girl so i do need certain things. also where do you buy a backpack??

Hey! I have an Osprey 55L .. which is perfect for over a month trip. 40L vs. 60L is the size of your bag, i.e. how much you can stuff in it. A 40L is a good size, but might be a bit small depending on what you bring (hair dryer, more than 1 pari of shoes, etc.) This also depends on if you plan on doing laundry, I would image so on a 4 month trip because clothes and whatnots for 4 months could be quite heavy. A 60L bag is really really big... I would recommend between a 45-55L bag. And also remember most flights only let you check up to 50lbs/20-23k without charging you extra.

Also when packing your bag, a rookie mistake is to pack the whole thing full. Don't do this you will want to make sure you have enough clothes for 7-10 days maybe a bit more (depending on where you're going and what the weather will be like). And you'll want to set off with your bag about half full or 2/3 full, but really no more than that because you'll need room for all your goodies you'll bring home.

Guys vs. gals packs: Gals pack are made for curvy hips, and I find they fit better than a guys or unisex pack. I suggest you find one where the waist strap can conform to you hips, that is excellent for comfort. You can find them online through camping/hiking/trekking sites or at similar stores.

Also, if you can, you'll want to try on your bag (or several to find one you like) in person, and usually these stores have weights that they can put in your bag so you will know how it will feel when you carry your pack. Because only you will be carrying it. Oh yea, and make the investment. If you buy a bag that is worth 50$ you'll quickly find that it is the same quality. A good bag will run you 190$-250$ and will last a lifetime if you take care of it.

Have fun!!

I have a Nomad Eagle Lady 50L and a new Lowe Alpine Frontier 65+15 (it fit me better than the women's model 55+10)
Generally women's backpacks are a bit smaller/slimmer, and are slightly adjusted to smaller shoulders and such. But it still really depends on the type/brand of backpack, and on your own stature.
When I bought my last backpack (Lowe Alpine), I tried a range of backpacks, the majority women's packs, but they simply didn't match me, so I ended up with a 'men's' backpack.

Do you take camping gear with you on your trip? If you do, a 60L would be better than a 40 or 50L, otherwise, these sizes will do. My own experience is that with camping gear, a 50L bag is soso, it fits, but don't ask how :P

I bought my backpack at an outdoor store. You could buy backpacks via the internet, but I wouldn't recommend that . Make sure to try a range of different packs. And as Lauren mentioned: It is definitely worth the money to buy a pack from one of the bigger brands.

I have a Berghaus Jalan 55+15. I'd advise buying a rucksack that opens around the side like this one & not just at the top as it's much easier to find things without having to unpack your whole bag!!
I'd recommend trying on the bags in an outdoor store to get the feel of it & then pricing online also. A good rucksack is an investment so it's worth spending the money on it as you'll have it for years.

thanks for the advice! but how much weight can a 55L pack hold? and i will not be taking any camping gear with me just clothes and essentials.

a 55L can hold a lot of weight maybe 60+ lbs. depending on what your packing. your clothes in a bag that size will be about 35-40lbs.
