best mobile sim?

mla1981 has indicated that this thread is about USA

Best coverage is probably Verizon, but I have no idea what are the best for call rates back to the UK. Also, be aware that you can buy disposable calling cards here (in almost any liquor store or gas station) that allow you to call for something like 12 cents a minute to the UK--so that might be a viable option for you.

You will need an adapter for your battery charger..

Thanks both, it's still a bit of a way off but trying to cover all bases before i go.

thanks again

I agree about the calling cards, much better idea.

I have a similar question which I might as well put here.

What about a pay as you go sim for data? Like, smartphones etc. Much call for such plans? There is over here (UK) but we have far less land to cover - so I have a question with that, are they worth it or just batter grabbing a starbucks wifi card or something?

Go to a little corner shop and ask them advice on overseas cards. They'll only have UK cards in stock, but will be just one call away from finding out who and where has the card for your needs. I do Canada and the USA quite regular. I was able to buy a card over here from a local shop that was only compatible with N. America providers, once slotted in my Worldwide mobile phone. My calls back home worked out at around 10c a minute and the card cost me a fiver. Oh and it was loaded with some credit on purchase. Excellent little bit of kit.

By the way, go on-line and check the price of an adaptor for your charger (220v - 110v) - v - the cost of a S/H phone with charger over there.
Phones I saw in Chicago and Toronto are available in the S/H stores at almost giveaway prices.
