New Zealand Alone w/ snowboard

So this summer, sometime between May and the end of August I'm looking into traveling New Zealand. Either with a friend or two or possibly by myself. I was wondering how easy (or difficult) would be to lug a snowboard (and gear) around?

Unless it is some sort of special board, I would say leave it at home.
All New Zealands Ski fields are well set up for ski and Snowboard hire.

If you are going to do a season here then think about getting your stuff sent later. I just did a season in NZ and want to do next year in Oz. Rather than lug the gear around I'm boxing up all my stuff and my friend is going to send it to me by post when it's time. The postage is cheaper than a season rental and buying stuff. Plus, I love my own stuff...

Either way you wont have a problem. Theres lots of rental gear everywhere and you can get better stuff but you pay a bit more. Search for some NZ ski shops to get an idea of rental rates. I think most airlines here will allow you to take sporting gear for free, in addition to you regular stuff, as long as its in a proper bag, and I don't know about buses but I guess it wouldn't be a problem either.

It's just the hassle of carrying extra gear vs how much time you will be on the mountain.

By the way, I just renewed my season pass for next year at Mt Ruapehu which works out very cheap (less than 5 day passes), so I recommend checking out passes also if you think you think you will spend a lot of time in one place.

Can't wait to get back on the mountain. Next season seems so far away.

Haha. It is so cheap at Ruapehu we're a little regretful to be leaving! My bf did a rocketpass so he would get his SP HALF price!
