Winter Sun in the Canaries

Hi all,

The Canary Islands are year round destinations because even in winter, you expect sun there (though there may be an occasional day with rain). Winter is their high season, so prices go up. Many of the best and cheapest places went a few months back. Christmas period will be very expensive there.

Not that much entertainment on the islands. Tenerife has discos, bars, a casino, L'Oro Parque (wildlife), Mt Teide (12,000 ft +) and other odds and ends. Lots of places to eat out cheaply. Shops. Markets. Public transport is good and you can get around the island fairly cheaply. Los Cristianos is probably best. Playa de las Americas is a bit noisy and Puerto de la Cruz is often for family and older people and has some steep hills but no beach onsite.

Southern part of Gran Canary is OK with a massive beach (Maspalomas), but not much entertainment. Lanzarote is quiet and the other islands quieter still.

You could try some travel agents or online holiday companies to see if they have some deals going. Two weeks can often cost little more than one there as they prefer two week "blocks".
