Uluru on a budget

Hello,

Hi Nyssa

I'm not sure about the cheapest way of getting to Alice (we flew).. when we went we did meet a girl who'd done it by bus from Adelaide (I think) and she said that was the cheapest way she'd found, I don't think the ride was particularly fun though..

When you do get there we would highly recommend the Mulgas Tour which seems to be the cheapest package to the rock out there at $250 for 3 days/2nights. We did this almost a year ago now and it was excellent, the guide was great, the food was great, the people were great.. it was just great! We stayed in Annies Place (the hostel that runs Mulgas Tour) and had a good experience there too with cheap food & beer and good clean rooms.

Hope you get to go out there as it's an awesome thing to see along with the Kings Canyon and Kata Tjuta, much much better than you think it will be.

Hope you make it!

Sophie

I took the when I went there, but this was 10 years ago. They had a little 3-day tour kind of thing, which included the Olga's. I camped as well (you could choose different options for accommodation if I'm not mistaken), so it ended up being quite cheap!

You don't need to do a tour at all; you can fly directly to Ayers Rock (with Qantas, from Sydney, Perth or Cairns), rent a car for 24 or 48 hours, and see both Uluru and Kata Tjuta yourself within 2 days before flying back out. Accommodation at Yulara (the resort town just outside the national park) isn't cheap (not even the 4 bed dorm rooms), and neither the car rental nor the flight are very cheap either, but you'll easily come out below $1000, and can do it all in much less time than you would by doing the big tour from Alice Springs.
If you're set on doing something tour-like, you could also do that from Yulara out; would mean you wouldn't even need to rent a car.

Renting a car isn't really an option for me and I would like to do a tour. Thanks for the advice. I dont know if i really feel like taking such a long bus ride into there either, we'll see what I end up finding. Thanks tho
