Ahila,
I am going to vote #2. I have Hoi An photos in my gallery, but I don't think it is worth giving up a day in HCMC. See what you can in HaNoi, fly to SGN, city tour, delta, home. Pity you don't have more time for VN.
Thanks, Mike. Have decided to leave Hoi An out of this visit and keep 2 days for Saigon. I initially did want to have at least 10 days in Vietnam which itself I thought was not sufficient but had to balance time and fellow-travellers' schedules as well. So I decided that it is better to have had a brief introduction to Vietnam than not at all.
And Anna, thanks for your PM and feedback to cover only one city in Vietnam within the timeframe.
1/ Ha Noi : 01 day for city tour, next day for cruising trip
2/ Hoi An: City halfday is enough but u will find it really tired if you do the trip too quickly so just flight to Da Nang and from Da Nang to Hoi An will save more time for you if you take train.
3/ Ho Chi Minh: 01 day for city tour and Cu Chi Tunnels , next day for Vinh Long - Cai Be Mekong Delta.
Hope my opinions will be helpful for ya
Thu -snip-
you might not care, but it's cold in Hanoi this time of year from what I've been told...
Anna
Yea, Anna's right. It's less than 10oC now in Ha Noi, so you should bring some good jackets with you
Hi Ahila,
Just wondering if you were willing to share your Cambodia itinerary? I'm doing the same trip as you and am trying to sort out my itinerarys.
Regan89,
My Cambodia itinerary is simple - three days at Angkor Wat. Didn't have more time to explore other parts of Cambodia.
Hoi an is a really nice sleepy town, but with enough options to see, drink and eat for a few days. Also there is a great beach there. Very long and very 'natural' feeling if that makes sense.
Saigon is a fast paced, fun city for backpackers, but make sure you check your bills
Oh, and if you're going Cambodia, you should check out Phnom Penh, it's only 6 hours away from Siem Reap.
I would recommend spending some time in Hoi An and less time in HCMC. Hoi An is a really pleasant place to spend a few days. I wasn't that keen on HCMC; Hanoi is a much more attractive city. The best thing I did in the HCMC area was a day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels which were fascinating.
