India - mandatory Christmas Eve dinner at hoteL?

Is it customary for hotels in India to require guests to pay for a Christmas Eve dinner? Seems like a robbery.

Increasingly hotels around the world (often the expensive ones) are having a compulsory xmas dinner which you have to pay a fortune for if you are staying there over xmas. It is robbery as the prices are often extortionate, but there is nothing you can do (other than moving to another hotel for that day or a few days).

A hotel can NOT force a guest to have Christmas Eve dinner at its restaurant, in my opinion. There is no such rule and can not be imposed on its own by the hotel.
If a guest has a dinner on his/her own, then the guest will be forced to shell out the hefty charges towards the special dinner.

Incase you find such a hotel imposing such a condition, suggest you to check out of the hotel and never to return to that hotel. At the same time make complaint to the Hotel Association of India in writing.

Thanks for your suggestions, but unfortunately I have already paid a deposit to the travel agent. I think it is the travel agent doing it for kickbacks from the hotel.

I know this is an old thread but my travel agent cannot even give me a price yet for accomodation as she is still waiting for the final Christmas & New Year dinner prices.
Sounds like a good deal for the hotels.
I suppose if the meal is VERY GOOD and the price is reasonable it does give us a celebration for Christmas/New Years Eve.
