Why not start by going either to Chichen Itza and then Merida--or else by going to Cozumel for some snorkeling?
Palenque is also a possibility--as are about 40 other spots in Mexico.

Merida is the capital. Kind of conservative though. NO Cancun unless your attracted to drunk college students. Playa is fun. If your staying on the strip its hard to find a hotel where you will get peace and quit. I like to get away. Small but maybe fun could be Isla Mujeres. There are some Eco lodges going toward Telum if you want a get away. Lucky you! Have fun.

Hey. I plan on doing a very similar trip very soon. I am wondering how you plan on getting from Playa to Argentina. I looked at flights and they are just too expensive for what Im looking for, but I am going to get there somehow, just now sure how yet. I am currently in Guadalajara, Mexico...then gonna work my way down. I'd love to hear your thoughts and advice.

Bus service is great in Mexico. Primera Plus Bus out of Guadalajara, ADO from Mexico City Norte Station to Tapachula, Chiapas, Tica Bus from Tapachula to Panama. Boat to Columbia. Bus through South America.
