I am Vanaja Krishna from India. I am planning to go to New York to meet my daughter. How much time it takes to get visa and passport? Where we have to go for visa interview? What type of medical insurance is good ? Is it necessary?
For 2,3 months staying what type of visa is good? Please help me.

You will have to deal with visa and passport in your home country,you can probably get the appropriate application forms online or sent to you from the closest Indian government passport office once you send in the forms it shouldnt take more than a month to get the passport and visa if you are only making the trip as a tourist..

First step is to get the passport, and the advice by jambo101 is the way to go.
Once you have the passport, you can start looking into getting a visa to US. Get the relevant information ready (e.g. fill out the application form, get the photo - note the special format which is different from normal passport size photo, relevant payment amount, documentations to support your finances etc) and contact the nearest (either Hyderabad, Kolkata, Chennai, Mumbai or New Delhi) to you for an appointment. Attend in person and then all you can do is wait for their decision.
Look at the embassy site in order to get an idea on how long it'll take for the issuance of visa (depends very much on the volume of application) and for information on all the documentations that you must have with you when you're at the embassy for visa interview. The type of visa to apply depends on the purpose of your visit.
